Continuing Education Opportunities

EDUCATION AT MIP

MIP offers a variety of ways that members and non-members can participate in continuing education. Continuing education is offered to all clinicians, academicians, scholars, and anyone interested in psychoanalysis, psychotherapy, related mental health issues, and the shared human experience.

CE, CME, and CEUs are given to MIP members for their completion of most courses and programs. CE, CME, and CEUs are included in the registration fees for non-members.

Each year, MIP offers the following continuing education opportunities:

Saturday Morning Program Series

Four or five Saturday morning programs with visiting speakers, discussants, and moderators are offered each academic year in the Boston area. Our Amherst division also offers an independent Saturday morning series.

These are guests who present on various psychoanalytic topics of interest to the community. If you have a topic or speaker you would like to suggest please contact the co-chairs of the MIP Program Committee.

Psychoanalytic Dimensions Courses

Psychoanalytic Dimensions courses, are generally six or more hours each, and provide ongoing education to analytic graduates, candidates, fellows, and mental health professionals seeking a forum for analytic thinking in the MIP community and beyond.  These courses are organized and facilitated by the Continuing Studies Committee.

All courses offer a deeper immersion into psychoanalytic theory and practice, the latest contemporary ideas, and courses that integrate psychoanalytic thinking with other disciplines or modalities. Continuing professional education credits are offered for our Dimensions courses.

All courses are free to MIP Members with a suggested donation. Non-members can enroll in the courses for a fee. Join our mailing list to be notified of upcoming courses.

Continuing Education Accreditations

Psychologists: The Massachusetts Institute for Psychoanalysis (MIP) is currently reapplying for sponsorship with the American Psychological Association (APA) to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. Please note: Per APA requirements, psychologists must attend 100% of a course to be eligible for continuing education credit.

Physicians: The Massachusetts Institute for Psychoanalysis, Inc. is accredited by The Massachusetts Medical Society to provide continuing medical education for physicians. Physicians should claim only credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Social Workers: An application for social work continuing education credits is submitted for most courses. Per NASW requirements, social workers must attend 80% of a course in order to be eligible for continuing education credit.

LMHC: When an LMHC attends a CE event that has not been approved for CE, an individual may seek approval retroactively by meeting the criteria for approval outlined in the MMCEP LMHC Consumer Guidelines and the CMR 262 Regulations for LMHCs. With Retroactive Approval, the CEs can be applied to the CE requirement to renew a license. Visit https://mamhca.org/page-18363 for information.
